With August here, I’m officially kicking off the St. Jude Intermediate 10K training plan as I get ready for the Hot Chocolate 10K in Chicago. After spending the summer focused on consistency, I’m ready for a new challenge. The intermediate program adds more intentional speedwork and a gradual mileage build that fits where I am right now.

The Hot Chocolate 10K is such a fun race with crisp fall air, a scenic course through downtown Chicago, and the delicious hot chocolate waiting at the finish line. I love having something exciting to work toward, especially as the weather starts to cool and running feels a little easier again.

The Plan Ahead

Over the next several weeks, I’ll be working through a mix of:

  • Speed workouts to sharpen my pace
  • Tempo runs to build strength
  • Long runs that stretch my endurance
  • Easy miles to keep everything balanced

I’ll be sharing training updates along the way, including the good runs, the tough ones, and everything in between. Here’s to a new training cycle, a new challenge, and a very sweet finish line waiting in Chicago. Running friends, what goals are you working toward this fall?

Hi, I’m Catherine

I’m a lawyer, law professor, and runner chasing a long-postponed dream. I turned 40 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, just as I was training for my first marathon. Life had other plans. Now, at 45, I’m back on the road with miles to run and lessons to share.
