Buckeye Strides: Connecting With the National Buckeye Running Community

When I’m not running or practicing law, I’m teaching at Ohio State’s Moritz College of Law. I was excited to join Buckeye Strides, the Ohio State Alumni Association’s spring running program.

Buckeye Strides invites participants to share the race or event they’re training for and contribute their racing miles toward a collective goal: seeing how many times Buckeyes can “travel” the 130‑mile loop around the Columbus campus. To date, 9,235 miles have been pledged. As someone balancing teaching, legal work, and race training, I appreciate any initiative that encourages wellness while strengthening community ties.

Signing up is quick and easy. You submit your event details, receive a Buckeye Strides bumper sticker, and your miles are added to the community tracker. The Alumni Association highlights participants, causes, and progress throughout the season, which makes it fun to follow along.

What resonates most with me is the spirit behind it. Buckeye Strides is a reminder that even when we’re spread across the world, we can still move forward together, one mile at a time. Here’s to more movement, more connection, and more Buckeyes supporting each other along the way.

I usually prefer solo running but have enjoyed being a part of this. If you are interested in turning running into a more social activity, consider joining a running club. There are more than 3,000 formally organized in the United States alone. May your month of May continue to be filled with good thoughts and kind people!

Hi, I’m Catherine

I’m a lawyer, law professor, and runner chasing a long-postponed dream. I turned 40 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, just as I was training for my first marathon. Life had other plans. Now, at 44, I’m back on the road with miles to run and lessons to share.
