Race Recaps & Rulings: RunDisney Springtime Surprise 10K

Course & Scenery

The course is mostly flat with only the slightest, barely noticeable hills. The route winds through the roads surrounding the theme parks, into EPCOT, and along the Boardwalk. The Boardwalk adds charm but also a bit of challenge. The wooden planks can be tricky. I even saw a fellow runner take a spill, so solid footing matters here.

Every mile was clearly marked, and the scenery was truly unbeatable. EPCOT was in full bloom for the Flower & Garden Festival, with vibrant flower beds and whimsical topiaries lining the paths. Even the road sections stayed lively thanks to Disney’s signature entertainment:
• Pooh, Tigger, and the Hundred Acre Wood crew
• The Alice in Wonderland cast, complete with a playing‑card army lining the course
• Aladdin and friends
• The Encanto ensemble
• Plus many more character surprises popped up in the most unexpected places during the races and throughout the weekend.

It’s hard to imagine a more joyful or immersive 10K backdrop.

Race Organization

RunDisney’s organization lived up to its reputation. Communication leading up to race day was frequent and detailed. Runners always knew what to expect.

Packet pickup at the Wide World of Sports expo was smooth, with clear signage and helpful volunteers. The only downside was that the expo was set up for heavy crowds even though it wasn’t busy when I arrived. That meant weaving through long, empty queue lines and trekking across the baseball fields between bib and shirt pickup.

Transportation was excellent. Buses to and from the expo and race were timely, comfortable, and plentiful. Corrals were well organized, and the pre‑race atmosphere was upbeat and fun. Disney races are undeniably pricey, and part of what you are paying for is this level of convenience and structure.

Aid Stations & Amenities

Aid stations were spaced appropriately for a 10K, offering water at three points along the course. That was perfectly sufficient for the distance. The medical team was visible, professional, and prepared for everything from blisters to more serious issues. Their presence was reassuring even if you never needed them.

Post‑race refreshments included water, Powerade (lemon‑lime, blue, and orange), bananas, and a snack box with a mix of sweet and salty treats. The Honey Stinger salted caramel energy waffle was a highlight.

Atmosphere & Crowd Support

Disney knows how to create an atmosphere. Even in the closed sections of the course, Cast Members and volunteers were out in force, cheering, clapping, and keeping spirits high. Spectators gathered near the resorts and along accessible road sections, offering enthusiastic support.

On‑course entertainment was unmatched: a mariachi band, a gospel choir, DJs, music throughout the parks, and my personal favorite, the famous Matsuriza drumming troupe beating out thunderous, rhythmic sounds on their gigantic Taiko drums at the Japan Pavilion. Runners travel from all over the world for this race weekend, and the energy reflects that.

Swag & Medals

The race shirt was a Brooks technical tee, with men’s and women’s cuts available. The light yellow color and festive Pooh & Tigger design fit the theme perfectly. The medal continued the celebration with the same dynamic duo enjoying some honey.

Weather & Timing

Even with a 5 a.m. start, the weather was warm and humid. Temperatures hovered just below 70°F at the start and crept into the low 70s by the finish. The sun barely rose before I crossed the line, but the humidity was noticeable. Thankfully, RunDisney provided Mission cooling towels at the finish, which were a lifesaver.

Timing was accurate, and results were posted quickly.

Personal Performance

I intentionally skipped setting a time goal for this race so I could stop for photos and fully enjoy the atmosphere. It was absolutely the right call. I felt good throughout, soaked in the magic, and finished with minimal soreness. A relaxing soak in my resort pool afterward helped loosen everything up.

Final Ruling

I would absolutely run this race again and recommend it to almost anyone. If you are chasing a PR, this might not be the ideal course. Disney races attract many casual runners, and the entertainment (and photo ops!) naturally slow the pace. That said, I was in Corral C (out of A–F), so the fastest runners may have had a different experience.

Verdict: Worth the Miles
